Funded Cycle Training Programme
for Schools
Cycle Right is the national standard for cycle training in Ireland and is delivered in collaboration with the Department of Transport and the RSA. The programme is produced and managed by Cycling Ireland and delivered through trained, accredited providers like us.
Cycle Right aims to promote competent, confident cyclists by offering practical skills and safety training to participants of all ages—from primary school children to adults.
As an accredited provider, Bike School staff hold:
Valid Garda Vetting (via Cycling Ireland)
Sport Ireland Safeguarding 1 certification
Appropriate First Aid qualifications
Evidence of insurance
Stage 1 - Primary School

Stage 1 training is aimed at primary school students from 3rd to 6th class.
Participants learn or improve the fundamental cycling skills along with key safety points to cycle safely on quiet roads.
We come to your school with our fleet of bikes. Students are welcome to participate on their own bikes.
The programme comprises 8 hours delivered over 4-6 weeks, covering a mix of classroom theory, yard based practical activity and one road training session.

Department of Transport and RSA provide funding for the basic Cycle Right training programme. The rate is based on school status
Additional funding is available for DEIS schools directly from Cycling Ireland
An Taisce Green-Schools offers a grant for eligible primary and secondary schools. The grant amount is €10 per pupil
Local Authorities and Sports Partnerships may provide additional funding to help with the remaining costs of the training

Stage 2 - Secondary School

Staged 2 is aimed at secondary schools.
Participants learn advanced cycling skills and decision-making for more complex road environments.
The course is delivered over 3.5 hours in three sections:
1 hour e-learning
1 hour theory
1.5 hours of cycling with a Cycle Right Trainer

Stage 3 - Adults

Stage 3 is designed for adults of all experience levels—no prior training is required.
Training is delivered in a single session over 90 minutes.
This stage builds on Stages 1 and 2, with a stronger emphasis on road safety and urban cycling skills with the aim of the participant becoming a confident, independent road user.
